Snow Day

Image
Today was a day we had planned since our last river session. This time it was to be just me and Damon. The plan was to target Dace and Chub on our local little river. We had scoured you tube and blogs and face book and even our own experience and found some spots that would be likely. I was fishing the float with my Daiwa 125m closed face reel and Damon was fishing with a small Feeder setup to try and find a big chub hiding away.  Tackle was sorted the night before and it was just bait to get in the morning as the tackle shop is only a short drive away.  Woke up in the morning and there was some snow on the ground. Not much just a light sprinkling at first. I spoke to Damon and he was still all good to go.  Took the Wife to work and headed off to the tackle shop. it was still snowing and quite heavy now.  Maybe the kids school might close?? Emily really wanted to go to school but Jacob was excited by the prospect of a snow day and a days fishing with me and uncle Damon.  My Bait of cho

Here Fishy Fishy It Was a Very Cold Morning as I dropped the Mrs off at work the car read -1c. From her work it was a 5 min drive to Adlington Angling centre. Parked up on the little Tesco car park grabbed some munch and then popped over the road to The fishing shop to grab a pint of there finest maggots. Today was a recce and a bit of an adventure for the kids. I was meeting up with my brother Damon and his little one so the kids could have a play and we could have a fish on the river which we haven't done for ages.  Target Chub and Dace.  We got to the meeting point and it was just about light so we took our time and tackled up. One rod between us pint of maggots and a bit of spare end tackle is all we took apart from the 2 rucksacks full of drinks and munch for the kids. Its only a short walk to the river from where we where so no hurry. as we walked down the frost was glistening in the early morning sun and it looked beautiful.  The River looked amazing and i had high hopes w

Simple fishing

I have not been fishing for a couple of weeks now due to one thing or another. So me and Damon decided we would just have a simple couple hours at a local pond. I have been on nights all week so Damon picked up a pint of maggots for me. I Grabbed Jacobs whip, tackle box and the net first thing and headed out for 9am. Damon was already there fishing with my rod!!!  I had lent it him to fish the river last week.  He was using his new centrepin using bread corn and maggot as bait. I set up Jacobs whip, plumbed the depth and we was off. Went to sit down and realised I had forgot to bring some chairs. Jacob feeding maggots. Jacob started feeding the maggots in then I gave him the whip and he started catching fish a few adjustments here and there and a steady stream of fish came to hand a couple needed netting. It slowed down for a while so Jacob practised his casting with the whip. He is getting quite good,  he only struggled because I left the rig a little long. I swapped

In for the win with 2 new swims

After last week's excitement at the 2 nice chub we caught, we decided to try again this week come hell or high water. High water it was. It has been raining all week and we chanced a trip down this morning and thankfully the river was just about perfect, nice bit of colour and about a foot of extra water. Most of the swims now had features and fishable areas, that last week would have been useless to even try. I had purchased some new floats and some bigger hooks as I had been struggling to see my stick floats at distance and we wanted to catch some more chub if we could. I met Damon at Millingtons fishing tackle at 9am and we just got half a pint of maggots and set off. I had all intention of trying some bread flake but I forgot to take the bread! We parked up and there was no other cars which is a good sign as it means the dog walkers were not out yet. Having forgot the bread, I decided to go for a size 10 drennan specimen hook and fish a bunch of maggots instead straight

Sorted out with my brother Damon last night to have a couple hours on river with him and little lad in a couple of easy access swims we have. I have to drop the wife off at work for 9am so would meet him there afterwards. The morning was very overcast and blustery so I messaged him asking how it was down by the river. His reply was "Fine wet fish"  eh?? I thought what does that mean when my messenger pings again to a picture of a nice trout. I could not wait to get down to the river now. Today was more about just fishing for bites to see if we could pick up a couple of fish for little lad. Simple stick float with maggots as bait. I pulled up next to Damons car just as my phone started to ring it was Damon gibbering with excitement saying you need to get here now I've got a big fish. Luckily it was a short walk from where we was so I picked up little lad and ran. From damon "After catching a brownie from one swim I moved down river in search of a few dace
